Plastic waste and waste in general are a common site in Mzuzu City. These plastics take time to decompose and thus pose a huge threat to all living things including mankind. Upon realizing the urgent need to deal with the challenges plastic waste poses on the environment, Revolution Human Aid and Transparency Initiative (REHAAT-INITIATIVE) is piloting a project that is recycling plastic waste by turning it into pavement blocks.

The organization is currently using simple and traditional technology to recycle this plastic waste. Once the initiative is scaled up, it is anticipated that issues of plastic waste in Mzuzu and other cities and major towns will be issues of the past. The organization also intends to use this initiative to solve challenges faced in the education sector by producing teaching and learning materials among others.
