One of our members Chitani Community Sustainable Development Organization (CHICOSUDO) in partnership with Rockflower launched End Child Marriage Now!!! Promote Her Rights campaign in Mulanje.
Mulanje is one of the districts in Malawi located in the southern region which registered high number of child marriages. In aim to address this, traditional leaders and stakeholders, formed community bylaws to protect girls from child marriages. However, formalization remains poor. It’s against this background where CHICOSUDO launched a 12 months project starting from October 2020 and will end on August 2021.

The campaign is aiming at preventing 500 early and forced marriages by advocating for policies and law enforcement against girl child marriage thereby directly protecting, helping and empowering girls of 12 to 17 years old against forced marriage while facilitating their physical and emotional development for the full enjoyment of their childhood.
Speaking during the launch the programs manager Lesly kapile, said, the main activities were, to train Traditional Leaders to take active role stipulated in the Community Bylaws Training of Paralegals, Introducing Men as Protectors, Training of peer educators to provide sexual reproductive health, community dialogues. The main reasons for the bylaw is to keep adolescence girls in school, to cancel the increased number of child marriages, and also strengthening the Paralegal.
