Yandura Chipeta

Yandura Chipeta is a dedicated advocate for social justice
and women’s rights. With over 14 years of experience in
international development, programme management and
fundraising; she has worked extensively on issues such
as gender equality, economic justice, and child protection.
Currently serving as the Executive Director of ActionAid
Malawi, Yandura leads the organization’s efforts to
address poverty and inequality. Prior to this role, she held
various leadership positions within ActionAid Malawi, including Head of Business Development,
Grants Management, and Communications. Her strategic thinking and operational expertise have
been instrumental in driving impactful programs and initiatives.
Before joining ActionAid Malawi, Yandura worked with Oxfam in Malawi where she played a
pivotal role in shaping crucial health and inequality campaigns. She was instrumental in
establishing the Universal Health Coverage Coalition (UHCC) and designing the 2014 UHC
campaign. Additionally, she co-designed the Malawi Inequality campaign, contributing to the
discourse on equitable development.
Yandura holds a Master of Arts degree in Governance, Development, and Public Policy from
the Institute of Development Studies at the University of Sussex (UK) and a Bachelor of
Social Science degree from the University of Malawi.
As an advocate for girls’ education, Yandura draws on her personal experience within Malawi’s
public education system. She believes in the transformative power of education to create
equitable and inclusive societies.

In his professional capacity, he drives growth and market strategy as the Marketing & Business Development Manager at Access Promotions while also serving as a pro bono Policy and Programs Manager for the Society for Education Initiative, focusing on strategic program development.
Acclaimed as an award-winning poet and short story writer, he applies his narrative and cultural expertise as a Co-Founder of the Vilipanganga Poetry Movement and as the official Country Representative (Malawi) for the World Poetry Movement. His practice integrates literary arts with social impact through Theatre for Development methodologies and literary translation.
