A group of parents identified as Tikuyana have a parent’s initiatives for special youth to empower them to be self-reliant and conduct businesses on their own. At the beginning of their project, the focus was on deaf education and skills development for those surrounding Mzuzu, Mzimba and Nkhatabay. Currently they assisting Embangweni, bandawe, Karonga deaf/blind schools on vegetable growing, vocational skills center and food relief, with parent’s contributions.

Going forward, Mr. Mkinga said they are also building a skills development center which will be center to teach the youth skills in tailoring, phone repairs, saloon and hair cut services.

With support from their Scottish friends, they have acquired 10sewing machines and 15 girls have already started sewing lessons informally as they wait for the vocational block building to be finished and lesson take place at Mr. Making residence who is the project patron. The girls are also supported with food supplies and other necessitates.

Currently they are partnering with another Scottish Organisation Banana box with Scottish Allan Ravrock who work much on field of blind and albinos at Ekwendeni.
