While teaching at Stirling University in Scotland, John and his wife Juliet Clough, made visits to Malawi to renew old acquaintances and to contribute to the University of Malawi community.

The late John McCracken was a member of the Society of Malawi and he made contributions to our distinguished Journal of the Society of Malawi and shared his research as a speaker at our public meetings. He was also a leading member of the Scotland Malawi Partnership, which frequently drew on his historical knowledge.
